Mission & Shared Vision Statement
The Michigan ACE Initiative’s Mission is to prevent and mitigate the effects of ACEs by creating trauma-informed, healing services, organizations, and communities across the state.
Shared Vision Statement: The Michigan ACE State Action Plan will serve as the Initiative’s Common Agenda. The Action Plan will be implemented through our statewide workgroups: Data & Surveillance, Education & Training, Prevention, and Policy & Advocacy. Our implementation vision will include using shared measurement tools, integrating partner activities, leveraging successful resources, strengthening relationships, and establishing an inclusive financial support structure.
State Action Plan
This plan will provide strategic direction to stakeholders on how to align efforts to prevent potential traumatic or adverse experiences and transform environments by leveraging community and organizational strengths to create resilient and prosperous environments where children, youth, and families can thrive. The Action Plan drives the MIACE workgroup strategies and activities. The plan was updated in October 2023.
MIACE Structure

The Michigan ACE Initiative uses a Collective Impact Model to build upon and sustain the work begun by the Initiative and CDC-funded projects across the state. Collective Impact is a network of community members, organizations, and institutions that address complex issues through structured collaboration and aligning resources to achieve population and systems-level change. Please click here to view the one-pager that outlines the updated MIACE Initiative structure and the Advisory Council Purpose Statement.

Advisory Council
The Statewide Advisory Council will provide guidance, vision, and oversight to the Initiative and will develop a common agenda, including a vision statement and guiding principles; use data to inform strategy development; track progress of work using agreed-upon indicators; lead working groups to ensure coordination and efficiency; interact with backbone organization on management and financial components and shared measurement. The Advisory Council will serve as a vocal champion of the collective impact effort in the community; and align the efforts of their organization and those in their network with the common agenda.

History
The MIACE Initiative has been a leader in raising awareness of ACEs prevalence and creating trauma-informed communities in Michigan since 2016. The Michigan Association of Health Plans Foundation (MAHPF) established the initiative with the support of grant funding provided by the Michigan Health Endowment Fund (MHEF). Collaboration with ACE Interface helped create the “train the trainer model” and develop a network of Master Trainers and Community Champions with cross-sector expertise across the state. In 2023, a collective impact model was established with the support of a CDC-funded initiative, and MPHI became the Initiative’s Backbone Administration. Since 2017, MIACE has completed over a thousand presentations across the state, created videos, facilitated collaborative partnerships, and built a trusted social media network and communication channels.

MIACE Master Trainer Maps
The Michigan ACE Initiative has trained 194 Master Trainers—and they’re making a widespread impact throughout Michigan. View the reach of the initiative by year below:
The MIACE Trainer Network is available to train in organizations and communities. The MIACE Trainers frequently work with organizations that serve children, including parents, foster parents, teachers, social workers, community health workers, law enforcement, and beyond. Creating trauma-informed communities—teaching individuals to recognize signs of ACEs before it’s too late—can change a child’s life.
